How Your Interior Design Project Works

A clear process gives your design project a useful structure. You should understand what is being designed, when you will review it and which decisions belong to the next stage.

The exact stages and deliverables depend on the agreed brief. The outline below explains how to prepare and the questions that should be settled before work begins.

Share your brief

Tell us where the project is, which spaces you want help with and what you want to change. Floor plans, photographs and a few carefully chosen references help explain the starting point.

Your priorities and investment range

Describe how the rooms will be used, what needs to stay and the decisions that matter most. An intended investment range helps frame the conversation. If you are unsure, say so rather than choosing a figure without context.

Agree the scope and proposal

Before commissioning the work, review what is included: rooms, stages, deliverables, fees, review arrangements and exclusions. Check whether the service is design advice, a wider design package or a particular visualisation brief.

Develop the layout and design direction

The brief informs the relationship between spaces, furniture and daily activities. Materials, colours and design details can then be considered as part of a connected direction rather than a series of unrelated purchases.

Review the design and refinements

Review stages and approvals

The proposal should identify when feedback is requested and how revisions are handled. Bringing comments together helps make each review purposeful. Changes to the original scope may need a separate agreement.

Receive the agreed handover

The handover includes the information named in your proposal. This might be design visuals, agreed drawings or selection information, depending on the commission. Confirm what each item is intended to communicate.

Understand who handles implementation

Design decisions versus specialist execution

A design concept does not automatically include purchasing, site supervision or construction. Establish who verifies dimensions, develops specialist technical details and implements the work. If you have a local contractor, explain that at the start.

Start your project

Send your project brief or enquire about an initial consultation. We can then establish the right starting point for your space.
